CSX PRACTITIONER CERTIFICATION

Demonstrate your ability to serve as a cyber security first responder with a CSX Practitioner certification.

Earning this performance-based certification shows you are skilled at following established procedures, defined processes and working mostly with known problems. It also demonstrates that you have firewall, patching and anti-virus experience and can implement common security controls, perform vulnerability scans and some analysis. The CSX Practitioner exam is a performance-based exam that tests a candidate's skills in a live, virtual "cyber lab".

CANDIDATES SHOULD DEMONSTRATE THE ABILITY TO:
1. Use vulnerability assessment processes and scanning tool sets to identify and document vulnerabilities based on defined asset criticality and technical impacts.
2. Obtain and aggregate information from multiple sources – for example: logs, event data, external intelligence – for use in threat intelligence, metrics and incident detection.
3. Implement specified cyber security controls – for network, application, endpoint, server, and more – and validate that controls are operating as required.
4. Conduct ongoing control tests and validations to verify effectiveness of controls and identify deficiencies and vulnerabilities.
5. Implement and document changes to cyber security controls – for example: antivirus signatures, firewall rule changes – in compliance with change management procedures.
6. Identify anomalous activity and potential internal, external, and third-party threats to network resources using network traffic monitors or intrusion detection and prevention systems, as well as ensure timely 7. detection of indicators of compromise.
7. Perform initial attack analysis to determine the attack vectors, targets and scope and potential impact.
8. Execute defined response plans to contain damage on affected assets.

JOB PRACTICE AREAS

Job practices consist of specific tasks and behavioral exemplars that serve as the basis for the exam and the skills required to earn the CSX Practitioner certification. The CSX Practitioner certification job practice is organized by five key domains, developed through an analysis of the work performed by cyber security professionals and validated by prominent industry leaders, subject matter experts and industry practitioners.
